Stihl MS 260 chainsaw. Here's a tough and lightweight chainsaw for pros. This is a mid-sized saw with 3.2 hp and has plenty of power.

It's the smallest saw in the professional category. Next up in size is the MS 361 and MS 441.

The MS260 is known to have a higher failure rate than other Stihl chainsaws. The consensus is that they had some problems at the factory with this one.

I have read some good reviews on this one though. Seems a lot of folks are happy with it. There are plenty of parts available too.

It's packing 4.1 hp and running 13k rpm.

If you're wondering, this is basically the same saw as the 036 less a little hp.

The Stihl 029 model has evolved into the MS-290 (sounds more substantial too). This is Stihl's #1 selling chainsaw. It's a great mid sized saw. You can go with 16" guidebar for smaller trees or upgrade to a 20" guidebar for bucking large trees, as I have done.

This saw features a 3.8 hp engine with plenty of torque. At 13lbs, it's very light considering that the first Stihl chainsaws weighed in at 140 lbs!

I've seen quite a few of these big beasts coming through here. The MS-880 Magnum has 8.6 hp making it the most powerful Stihl Chainsaw.

You can go BIG on the guidebar - up to 59". Perfect for cutting sequoias and giant redwoods... actually this saw is probably too small for those giants.

If you haven't seen one of these giant sequoias up close, then you're missing out on one of the great pleasures in life. Fortunately they're protected from logging, as they should be.
